I cnc a lot of hard wood, (eg old sleepers). However, it's also important to keep in mind that the dust created is fine particulates which can be harmful to health, it's highly recommend to make sure the dust created is disposed off properly and safely. This eliminates the need to use tabs or tape to secure the material and can save time on handling. One benefit of this dust is that it gets packed back into the slot made by the end mill, which can help to hold the material in place. Therefore, it is important to have proper ventilation or dust extraction in place to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. Popular sizes include 1mm diameter for 3mm material, 1.5mm for 6mm, 2mm for 17mm and 1/8" for 18mm material.Ī straight flute end mill is a useful tool for cutting a variety of materials, but it does create a significant amount of dust as opposed to chips. The disadvantage is that due to the straight geometry, they may dull more quickly than other end mill types. Clean up is easy, just a little brush is needed to remove any residual burrs. They are also cost-effective compared to other types of end mills, like down and compression cutters, and provide a good finish on both sides of the material. These mills have straight blades that make them suitable for cutting a variety of timber materials, such as plywood, melamine chipboard, whiteboard, and veneers. A straight flute end mill is a popular choice among "decor warriors" who work with MDF and plywood.
